Commissioned in 1964, she was based on the concept of Admiral Arleigh Burke. Sacramento was designed to be fast enough to keep up with a Fast Carrier Attack Group and serve the combined roles of an oiler, an ammunition ship, and a store ship. The four ships of the Sacramento-class served proudly with US fleets around the world until 2005. They were replaced with the Supply-class ships.
