1/10 oz Silver Buffalo Round

$50.64 $68.87
Silver Buffalo Rounds take their inspiration from James Earle Fraser's classic design of the Buffalo Nickel released in 1913. The rich and vibrant history of the United States is celebrated with this coin, which includes a tenth troy ounce of .999 fine silver and features a historic and unique design on both the obverse and reverse. Measuring 19.2mm in diameter and 1.35mm in thickness, these Buffalo rounds are privately and freshly minted regularly in the United States with the best quality artistry and highest craftsmanship. After President Theodore Roosevelt suggested that American coinage needed to draw some inspiration from the ancient coins of Greece and Rome, the Buffalo Nickel designed by James Earle Fraser went into production. This coin included imagery of two of the most distinctive inhabitants of Native America and is still widely considered a commemoration of the country's history. The Buffalo Nickel ceased production at the beginning of the Second World War, and it wasn't until 2001 that President Clinton authorized the release of this Silver Buffalo Round to commemorate the founding of the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian. Regarded as one of the best designs of any U.S. coins, the obverse of the coin features a stoic portrait of a Native American, the features of who Fraser gained from a mixture of three Indian Tribal Chiefs; Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons. This side of the round also has the motto 'LIBERTY' above the chief's head. On the reverse of the round is a picture of the American Bison, known more commonly as a Buffalo which is where the round takes its name. The Buffalo is said to be modeled after 'Black Diamond' in New York's Central Park, but this has not been proven. The reverse also features the hallmark stamp with the weight and purity of the round.
